Re Prediction No 8 'Emergence of Neo Nazi Groups'. Do you really think Fine Gael will do that well?

I'd replace Somalia with Pakistan, and in terms of Far right groups the rise of 'Facism' does not fit into the left-right spectrum,it's true meaning has often been misconstrued.

Gee, Ronan, if someone was picking a party that was very overtly nationalist, described itself as socialist and talked a lot of itself as representing the workers first and foremost I can think of another party that fits that the bill more than FG.

1. Fianna Fail lose their Dublin European seat. - not impossible but unlikely, I think Labour are more vulnerable. Might open a market on betfair for that one.
2. Somali becomes Obama's first foreign policy military intervention.
3. Bangladesh suffers from serious civil unrest.
4. Ireland qualify for the Soccer World Cup. - sadly no.
5. Lisbon Treaty is passed in October. - Yep. 55% to 45%
6. Irish Unemployment reaches 12%. - might top out at 11% in 2009 but the trend is in that direction.
7. Teachers and ESB workers strike.
8. Emergence of Irish neo nazi gangs. - possibly not,
9. Anglo Irish ceases to exist and BOI and AIB merge. - I think BOI and AIB will survive but I suspect RBOS or Santander someone foreign at least to hoover up a lot of the smaller banks.
10.Labour win the Dublin South bye election. - FG to do the double in South and Central!

Dan, I think that Senator Alex White is a really good candidate and ultimately he will be what wins it for Labour in DS. I see a really big anti-government vote coalescing around him. In DC Pascal must be the clear runner.

Lipservice - totally agree with the snowstorms. We are well due and this is the year. Tony Blair as a peacemaker is interesting. I think we are a few years off the nuke or dirty bomb and I can't see India or Pakistan going to war - it doesn't suit either at the moment and they have been skirmishing at each for so many years at this stage that an accidental war or unplanned escaltion is unlikely

Killian, is MLM not going to run? I think I'll do a separate post on Central so as not to confuse the topic here.

C'mon Dan, leave Labour out of this!

1)Excellent, I can see this happening.
2)This will not happen, maybe increased patrolling off the coast of Somalia.
3)Has it not always, as it is, it is a matter of time, before the fundementalists take over.
4)Not a chance.
5)Very possible.
6)At the very least.
7) The hostility that will greet them will be immense, if they do.
8)The working class have been really screwed over the last 5 years. It is only natural they will fight back.
9) Anglo is already a junk stock, AIB and BOI can't be far behind, both to be nationalized over the next two years.
10) Agreed.
